Scott Campbell, AIA LEED® BD+C

Principal

While not a founding principal, Scott is a foundational principal, exemplifying VIA’s core values and the incredible potential and impact that architects can have both at VIA and within their local community. Starting at VIA as an architectural intern right out of school, Scott transitioned his natural ambition and passion for design and building into an even greater passion for leading the firm as a hands-on principal that excels at working with complex clients, managing complex projects with complex teams, and working on complex sites; all while building great corroboration and relationships with everyone involved.

Scott’s strength as an architect is his ability to think and create 3-dimensionally, utilizing 3-D software to support, shape, and reinforce the design from the onset of a project. His 3-dimensional creativity, coupled with his communication and graphics talents translate to all building and project types, enabling him to work on a variety of projects with a special focus on affordable housing, existing building transformations, educational/research facilities and any and all projects located on or near the water.

His skills as a designer also lie beyond just the creation and development of the idea, but to the ability communicate it effectively and dynamically. He relishes and excels at being the voice that understands and communicates a client’s vision, rallies the client/team/stakeholders around it, and ultimately guides it all the way through construction to bring it to reality. It is a testament to his skills in this vein that nearly every project he has worked has been constructed!

Beyond VIA, Scott dedicates his time and energies to supporting his community as a “citizen architect”, recognizing the impact that architects’ insights and training can contribute to their local communities. He has served on various committees and held multiple leadership positions on local arts boards, both the local and state chapters of the AIA (AIA HR and AIA VA), and most recently has joined the Downtown Norfolk Council.

Scott’s passion for design and pursuit of betterment is evident in all that he does; as an architect, designer, business owner, builder, creator, and communicator. As renowned speaker Les Brown put it: “We must take charge of our own destinies, design a life of substance, and truly begin to live our dreams.”
